There are two types of ways that a bride can purchase a wedding dress. Special ordering a wedding dress means that the bride will be ordering and having a brand new gown shipped from the designer. Buying a sample dress or off-the-rack means that the bride will be purchasing a gown that has been gently tried on in the bridal shop and taking it home with her that day.
What is a Special Order Wedding Dress?
Every bridal shop has sample dresses in store; these are the dresses that brides try on at their appointment. At Ashley Grace, we carry dresses in a range of straight and plus sizes from 6-30. If a bride falls in love with a dress that she’s tried on at her appointment, we will take her measurements and consult the size chart from the dress’s specific designer. After chatting with the bride on what size will be the best fit for her, we order her a brand new dress (rather than the sample dress that she tried on in-store) in her size that arrives in our store from the designer in anywhere from 1 month to 6 months.
Once her dress comes in, we will give the bride an exciting call to schedule her Finishing Touches appointment! At this final appointment, the bride will try on her dress, pay her final payment, and take her gown home.
What is a Sample or Off-the-Rack Wedding Dress?
Also referred to as “Ready-to-Wear”, sample dresses are the gowns that are tried on by brides at their appointments. Sample sales occur when shops have received new inventory and are looking to clear out some of their samples. These gowns have been gently tried on and are therefore typically discounted. A Sample Sale is a great way to score a wedding dress at an affordable price, and is the perfect event to look for if you are a bride on a budget.
