Going wedding dress shopping is one of the most exciting things to do during the planning process! But, if we’re completely honest, it can also be a bit stressful, and even obsessive.

Did you know that nearly 70% of women on Pinterest have wedding boards dedicated to bridal gowns, YEARS before their engagement? Spending hours flipping through magazines, researching bridal styles, and trying on what you thought was your ideal wedding dress can become exhausting.

At Ashley Grace Bridal, we want to give you the best wedding dress shopping experience! So, we came up with our best tips to guide you through the wedding gown shopping process.

1. Keep an Open Mind and Take Your Time

At Ashley Grace Bridal, we encourage you to spend a few moments in each dress, regardless if it’s THE ONE or not. This will allow you to think about what you like and what you don’t like about each dress. This way, you will be able to draw conclusions that will help narrow down your dress options!

We also stress the importance to our brides to remain open-minded when searching for their dream dress. Even if you have a clear vision of what you (think you) want, we encourage you to try on different styles. You may be surprised! Imagine falling in love with something you thought you would never wear!

2. The Power of Three

This quick tip comes from Carissa, the owner and principal seamstress of The Gilded Thimble.

When trying on wedding dresses for purchase, I always recommend three types: one that you love from Pinterest, bridal catalogs, etc., one that you are trying on because it will suit your body type, and lastly, a “wild card” (something you would never imagine yourself wearing). If you don’t find the picture-perfect wedding gown, don’t sweat it! Try to imagine dress shopping as if you were shopping for a house. You try to overlook superficial things like paint colors or furniture. What you are supposed to look for are the ‘bones’ of the house. It is time to look at the ‘bones’ of the dress! For example, if a dress is a flattering fit for you but you don’t like the trim, perhaps that can be removed or swapped out easily!

3. Ask Your Bridal Consultant

At Ashley Grace, we love supporting our brides. So, don’t be afraid to ask our Bridal Consultants for help! There are so many different styles to choose from (Classic, Rustic, Vintage, Romantic, Whimsical, Bohemian, Glitz, and Glam, etc.)! There are even multiple silhouettes (A-Line, Ballgown, Mermaid, Tea-length, Trumpet, Sheath, etc.).

Our Bridal Stylists will give you their expert advice on trying to find the perfect dress. Our job is to help you find your dream gown stress-free!
